And if Goodwins wasn't there, you would all be complaining that there was no grocery store in Crestline. How horrible it would be to have to drive all the way to Lake Arrowhead or even worse "down the hill" to San Bernardino. The only way Crestline businesses can survive and get better is if they are supported by local residents. We are "weekenders," so our opinion probably won't count for much, but we are constantly amazed at the selection and quality available at Goodwins. Our home is in a very small town, and we would LOVE to have Goodwins in our community as our own local grocery!!

That is a good way to look at it, Crest Forest Dweller. I have to agree. Awesome for things that are needed, with good prices for a general store. But stocking up in Stater Bros in Arrowhead or down in San B is the way to get fresh food at the best savings.

Goodwins is a good place for staples when you need to pick up a couple of items. Unfortunately, the "stench" from the meat department is very unappealing to purchase any form of meat there, especially with all of the "repackaged" chicken. Stater Bros in Lake Arrowhead is the best grocery store on the mountain their meat department is superb, their bread/bakery department is vast, and their produce is often competitively priced. As a Crestline resident I treat Goodwins as a general store, primarily out of convenience.

Okay, yes, my field trip to State Brothers in Lake Arrowhead Village (upper village) proved fruitful. The prices ARE cheaper, and there is a better selection. Also, it's cleaner.

I am not saying it's cheap like CostCo or anything. But a few more bucks can be saved here than Goodwins, if you are already heading into Arrowhead.

I totally am with you on this - it's cold in there! And unit prices are important - I wonder why they don't have them?

I have heard the food prices and selection is better at Stater Brothers in Arrowhead. I think I will check that out for my next food shopping excursion.

And you say I have the sensitive nose! Aside from the fishy smell in the back of the store I haven't noticed any other smells. Well, there was that guy who had been drinking and fishing all day that was chatting me up in the checkout line once, but aside from that... :-)

What I do notice, and this is true of most grocery stores, is that it is cold as frak in there. Even when it's warm outside I remember to wear long sleeves when I go grocery shopping.

And one thing I really wish they would fix is to add a "cost per unit serving" on the shelves. I mentioned that to the store manager and he said he'd take that into consideration. It just makes it much easier to compare items when shopping.
