Autumn Begins in Crestline California

It’s a fall day in Crestlinecrestline pine trees - I woke up smelling change in the air. My deck had the first scatterings of brown oak leaves blowing around. And I wore a light jacket over my tee shirt during the day, for the first time since around May. Last night we actually closed the door to our deck…and we may need to turn on the heat on tonight! I look forward to many nights by the fire.

It still looks very lush and green up here in the San Bernardino Mountains, but now, October 3rd, it seems we’re getting our first hint of a change on the seasons. The sunflowers, though  - harbinger of late summer - are still going strong.lake gregory in crestline california

My guess is we’ll have plenty of warm days through to the end of November. It’s still within my first full year here in Crestline, and I have heard we won’t get snow or true cold until December or so. I look forward to watching for any pretty leaf displays.

You can start to see a hint of color in the tree pictured here - a tinge of yellow. Note also the fallen brown leaves at the water’s edge. I took the photo two days ago hiking on a trail around Lake Gregory.
