How Far is Crestline from Everywhere ?

I’ve been getting a few questions about how long a trip Crestline is from Los Angeles and elsewhere. Crestline is so proximal to everything that I take it for granted.southern california map of our mountains

So here is a quick guide from various points in Southern California and other close by destinations (one way and not counting stops; this is driving right on through):

  • Los Angeles - with no traffic, one can get from the Los Angeles Airport to Crestline in 1 hour and 45 minutes. With bad traffic, it will be a longer - or even much longer - drive. We generally consider trips to LA as a 2 hour trip in one direction
  • San Diego - going up I-15 to the 215 takes us almost exactly two hours
  • Temecula - Up the 215 this trip is around an hour long
  • Palm Springs - 45 minutes
  • Joshua Tree - 45 minutes
  • Idyllwild - 45 minutes
  • Big Bear - about an hour on Hwy 18 - the Rim of the World Highway
  • Lake Arrowhead - usually 15 minutes on Hwy 18
  • San Bernardino - to downtown SB it really depends on where you are going. It can take from 15 minutes to 30 minutes for most SB destinationscrestline in San Bernardino County, CA
  • Riverside - around 45 to an hour
  • Irvine - 2 hours
  • Las Vegas - coming up the backside of Crestline from Las Vegas, it’s around a 3 hour drive. In this one we are actually guessing. We are heading to Vegas in September and will time the trip then.
  • NYC - four days of non-stop driving :-)

I’ve found that it takes just about 25 minutes to get to where I-215 and I-10 meet. So however long it takes to get to/from there is your drivetime.

polyGeek, you are saying it takes you about 25 minutes from Crestline to where the I-215 and I-10 meet, correct? That sounds about right. :)

Crestline sounds like a great place! Too bad I’m up in Oregon. But if I’m ever in the LA area I might just have to take a drive up that way.
    Great site!

Aurae it’s like paradise here but if I recall, Oregon is also like paradise. Paradise with more rain. :)

Yes if you are in the are you really should come up! We just had some friends from Germany visit. They were driving up the CA coast and they told us this was the prettiest place they’d seen yet. :)

Um…as far as how long a drive from Oregon….we did that exact trip in January (but didn’t drive it straight). In a straight shot…I don’t know…18 hours? Anyone know?

I honestly never heard of Crestline before. We are about 7 minutes from downtown and close to Hollyood and LA Zoo. Near fwys 5, 2 and 101 and 134.

My kids really enjoyed the amtrak ride we did a few years ago to San Diego and it would be nice for them to see snow and take one in the winter up north.

Does the Amtrak go into this area, which stop? Might be something to consider since we can take taxi to downtown LA and then relax on train without driving in snow and distractions for this driver from kids.

Don’t feel bad, Bonnie; I’ve never heard of it before either, and my family LOVES Arrowhead. (We live nearest to the 405 and 10.) I think it’s sweet to live in a place that is so centrally located, yet off the beaten track enough that you get peace and quiet. Crestline sounds excellent.

Bonnie, that is something we are also planning to do - explore taking the Metro to LA. We’re a little tired of driving out to LAX for cheaper flights than the Ontario airport. Also, my MIL lives in LA and we’d love to have her take the Metro from LA to San Bernardino, where we can easily pick her up.

When I write up the train journey I will let you know, as I really DO think a nice winter train ride to see snow would be great. From SB, one just needs to hop on the MARTA bus right into Crestline and get off at the lodges.

That sounds good. I prefer the Burbank airport instead of LAX and it is closer to us.

With my two kids I would just take a taxi instead of being in an unknown area waiting for a bus. Always pre plan everything to find out numbers to cab companies and fare amount. Due diligence.

Jennifer that is too funny, as you have to pas by the Crestline exit on the Rim of the World Hwy to get to Arrowhead. Which is only a few miles further.

But you are right; everyone passes us by for Lake Arrowhead so we do stay nice and peaceful. :)

I know why you like Arrowhead anyway - it has a Starbucks… ;)

Bonnie that makes more sense for you and probably for a lot of people on vacation. Taxis are more comfortable and it’s a short distance. So the Metroline to SB, take the taxi from there and head to Sleepy Hollow Cabins or the North Shore Lodge. :)

oh, or to this private rental cabin i wrote on:

I will write about those lodges and also let people know when we have snow. Probably in November!
