Mostly Yoga Class at The Club in Twin Peaks
Monday, June 30, 2008 23:57Tonite I took a class called Mostly Yoga at The Club, in Twin Peaks.
Twin Peaks lies on Hwy 189, a few miles past Crestline. The gym costs $30 a month or $5 a day/class. The yoga class was held on the third floor, on a hardwood floor with a large fan and one wall of mirrors.
It was a little harder and faster than my beginning yoga library class, but I did expect that. It was easier than the Tuesday AM class at the dance academy, though.
We started the class with a meditation and the instructor had a little bowl that she hit with a mallet to make a chiming sound. That was neat.
There were some jump backs and the class moved along rather quickly, but there were no hard poses. We did the usual assortment of basic poses, along with some half moons, sideways planks, plows, rotated triangle, shoulder stands and standing splits. So this was probably an advanced beginner to early intermediate class. We also had a nice long savasana.
I am not clear why this class was called Mostly Yoga since it was all yoga. Jessica, the instructor, looked to be in her late 40s or so, a tiny, wiry and very fit woman. I found it hard to hear her instructions over the noise of the fan. Part of it was that she didn’t project that well. She certainly seemed quite experienced and kind, however.
I enjoyed the class even though she moved a bit faster than I usually like. Next time I will move closer so I can hear her better, instead of taking the space in back by the fan. I am thinking it might be nice to go to this class each Monday. It’s a 5:30PM class, which is great as I am more fluid in the afternoon than the mornings.
